The British Marine Federation (BMF) is the trade association for the leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry. We represent businesses involved in:

• Leisure boats – seagoing and inland

• Small commercial workboats up to 24m

• Superyachts

• Hire fleets

And all the equipment and services needed for those craft. Nationally our members come from around 4,200 businesses in today’s UK leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine markets. The turnover of those markets is worth almost £3 billion. The BMF’s mission statement is:

• We will lead and promote our industry and work with our members to achieve sustainable growth in a competitive global environment, through the provision of world-class goods and services. In the South West, an elected Board made up from members across the region represents member’s interests.

The BMF South West’s mission statement is:

• To be the ‘Champion’ for the local marine leisure and small commercial industry companies, assisting them to improve their businesses and improving communications at all levels.

The South West for the second year running is the largest BMF region accounting for over 31.4% of the £2.905 billion UK turnover (2012/13). We are the largest employer in the marine sector providing nearly 10,000 jobs across the region. Overall the industry grew by 1.7% on the previous year (2011/12)

The Board meets four times a year and all members in the region are encouraged to attend and participate in the Board meetings. As a Company Limited by Guarantee the BMF South West Board also holds an Annual General Meeting and Conference in the February of each year. In addition to the usual business of the AGM, this event is designed to be an opportunity to meet and network with your colleagues in the region, with sessions and topics chosen to promote open discussion and networking. All members are encouraged to attend the regional AGM.

Annually the BMF South West co-hosts with South Devon Marine the ‘Try A Boat Free!’ event where members of the public are encouraged to get afloat. BMF members from the region are encouraged to attend, exhibit and participate in this important free event.
