Try A Boat Free Comes to Torquay in 2016
Back for another year, British Marine South West presents their Try a Boat Free event.
This is the opportunity for you to find out more about boating and to try one of the boats we will have on the water for the two days. The event is entirely free and is open to all ages (children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult).
All the boats are skippered by qualified or professional yachtsmen. You will be provided with lifejackets and the skipper will provide a short safety briefing before you head off. Depending on weather and tides each trip can be between 20 minutes and an hour.
This year with our colleagues from the RYA and South Devon College we will be offering some hands on advice and demonstrations.
Try A Boat Workshops (Ashore and afloat)
“Cooking On board” demonstration – live (Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May)
David Wells from South Devon College will be running cooking demonstrations from the catering unit on site showing how to cook a proper meal on a one burner stove. David has already successfully delivered this fascinating demonstration at Beaulieu Boat Jumble and the RYA South West Cruising Conference and he demonstration is packed with ideas for you to try onboard.
No booking required – just turn up and watch!
“Practical Navigation” (Afloat) (Saturday 28th May), 10.30 & 12 noon
Paul Cunningham will be providing a short at sea introduction to navigation especially how to use electronic navigation tools properly. This short in sight will give you first hand experience and identify any knowledge gaps you have and where and how to find further training.
